Black Bear Inn at Lake Tahoe

Reviewed by MaryAnne Williams

For those that are craving a romantic get-a-way weekend, it is not hard to find the Black Bear Inn located in beautiful Lake Tahoe . We spent such a delightful weekend at this exquisite bed and breakfast that by far over exceeded our expectations. The Inn is owned and operated by Jerry Birdwell and Kevin Chandler who greet and welcome all of their guests with their innate Southern hospitality.

The ambiance of the Inn was perfectly Tahoe, with the main cabin set amongst the pine trees and picturesque woods. The Inn is located within walking distance of the lake and my sweetie and I had a nice time walking hand in hand down to the lake while enjoying the breathtaking sunset and view of the lake.

While the Black Bear Inn is gay owned and operated, it is not gay exclusive but we immediately felt welcomed to be ourselves. The rooms offer all the comforts of home plus luxuries one can only dream of; Ralph Lauren sheets & towels, over plush pillows and a roaring rock fireplace, not to mention the perfect rustic room décor one would expect at Lake Tahoe . We simply felt spoiled and had a great time indulging ourselves.

Try not to miss the 5pm wine and cheese gathering Jerry and Kevin host for their guests. The wines featured are exclusively bottled for The Black Bear Inn and they are superb. The major highlight of our weekend was our visit to the private outdoor Jacuzzi which we indulged in while sipping our wine. It was everything you can imagine. It is no wonder the TV Series “The Bachelor” had chosen this setting for one of the dates on the series premiere.

Of course the breakfasts are all too delicious and we savored every bite of Jerry’s specialty dish, Eggs Benedict. They really spare no expense on spoiling their guests, with the best coffees, dishes, finest linens and silverware.

For those of us whom are always busy and on the go, whom desperately need to feel rejuvenated in a short period of time, this charming haven is exactly what the doctor ordered. Perhaps you are hoping to surprise your lover with a romantic get-a-way destination? The Black Bear Inn is perfect for any couple craving romance and ambiance.
