Again
this year brought us another beautiful weekend in Palm Springs.
The mountains, the weather and the beautiful women of all
shapes sizes, ages (this year) and colors! The majority
of the women we met and interviewed were from Southern California
but there were women from England, Brazil and even North
Dakota! The streets were packed with lesbians. So
it really doesn't matter what you do, or what event or party
you go to.... as
long as you are in Palm Springs!
This
was LezBeOut's second year of reviewing the events and again
we had a great opportunity to interview so many wonderful
women. Strangely in some instances it seemed there
were not as many women at the events as last year, even
though it still
was packed!

CS/
GB Parties
The
Club Skirts/Girl Bar events were still the largest events
to attend, but some of the other parties gave CS/GB parties
a run for their money. The CS/GB Kick Off party had
better entertainment then last year. In the beginning
of the evening the music was much better and this year Dana
Adkins from the Beach Blanket Babylon Caberet fame performed
and was both entertaining and funny!). Adkins Sonny and
Cher performance of "Babe" was delightful!
Yet her time on stage was way too short. Another interesting
thing about the Kick Off party is that we waited in line
to get in, only to get through the door and hardly anyone
was there. It did get packed but the waiting in line
was very deceiving.
Again
with the exception of The Queens Of Comedy Night, what you
must completely understand when you come to the CS/GB parties
is that you primarily pay that shockingly
high price just to get in the door and nothing else. The
White Party and The Hollywood Nights Parties were extremely
over crowded! To the point where it was not enjoyable.
Our most heard compliment was that there are SO MANY WOMEN!
and our most heard complaint was that it was not worth the
admission price of $45. The venue was simply not large enough
to hold that many women. And again this year, I have
never seen lines to the bars and the bathrooms as long as
I do at these parties.
I
understand although cannot figure out how we missed it but
there were other entertainers and a Casino room which may
have made the events a little more worth the money.
The
pool parties have been and still are the best events to
attend. Thousands of women having fun, great music and lots
of fun in the sun. The lines to the bathrooms are
ridiculous... you have to go through a maze to get to the
bathrooms and when I was waiting in one line, a very classy
lady looked at me and said, "I should have stayed
in the pool. I just knew I should
have stayed in the pool". YIKES! Scary!
But it is a good sum of how bad the bathroom lines are.
The beers were $5 and $6 for a bottle of beer! And well
drinks were $7 plus!
WOAR
and Other Parties
In
comparison the WOAR parties with the exception of the pool
parties, are much more subdued, laid back and not massive
like CS/GB. A good for instance is that at their parties
you are much more likely to hear "Unusual" by
Tom Jones playing. There are women of all ages at these
events. The WOAR pool parties are much more interactive
then CS/GB parties. Instead of 3000 women they have 300
and instead of paying $5 for a small beer you will pay $3.
This year they had a hilarious pool game in which ping pong
balls filled the pool and who ever got the most ping pong
balls into their swimming suit won a prize! It was
off the hook!
Also,
something to mention is that Andrea Meyerson who produces
the events is very actively involved. She gets out
there and makes sure that she says hello and greets everyone,
asks if they had a good time and is very welcoming and positive.
Again
Toucans this year, the local gay club, also brought in a
great crowd and had no cover. Also, many of the Resorts
had their own parties. Even spending time in the jacuzzi
at your local hotel or motel, you will find it full of sisters!
So you can still have a great time without spending
a fortune.
In
a Nut Shell
Everyone
we spoke to had a blast, but interestingly as passionate
as they were about what a great time they had, they were
oppositely as passionate about the costs. You must be prepared
to spend a ridiculous amount of money.... it costs as much
money to get into just ONE four hour GB/CS
party as it does to go to DisneyLand! Obviously the biggest
complaint that we received was the costs and honestly some
women are so upset and passionate about it, yet year after
year we see the same girls spending that $$ at the events. Colleen
from the SF Bay Area explained this phemonenon simply, "You
can probably throw dirt on us, and we would still come because
of the women". And at another time an LBO
PR Rep witnessed an upset older lady talking to one of the
promoters about the ridiculously inflated costs, and the
reply she received was "If you do not like it,
don't come". Our suggestion is to accept it and
have fun. If you cannot afford to go to all of the
parties, then pick and choose what you want to attend. The
promoters corner this event market and they know it.
The
best things about these parties is that the are massive,
wall to wall women. This year there seemed to be a lot of
couples?? And if you stay at one of the host hotels
the party is never ending. And if you stay at a smaller
boutique hotel it is a little more subdued and perhaps relaxing.
But everywhere there are lesbians!
In
our opinion the best events to attend and be sure not to
miss are the pool parties.... get in early or you will be
standing. Expect to see hundreds of scantily clad
women dancing, mingling and playing! Again it is the
crowds that make these events so much fun!
