FLYING:
If you are flying into Palm Springs , you will likely
fly directly into The Palm Springs International Airport (PSP)
as it is no less expensive flying into one of the bigger cities.
In 1939 PSP was constructed to facilitate the Army Air Corp
during times of war and in 1964 PSP began scheduling flights
from commercial airlines. Most major airlines fly into Palm
Springs now. You can learn more about the airport and its
servicing airlines here at http://www.palmspringsairport.com/
DRIVING
IN FROM NORTHERN CALIFORNIA : The Antelope
Valley Poppies make the drive from Northern
California to Palm Springs a delight. People from all over
the world come to see the California Poppies but, unless you
are a flower enthusiast you may not even know of them. It’s
a do not miss detour, which really only takes you off the
beaten path but does not prolong your drive to Palm Springs
what so ever and March is the best time of year to see the
poppies. They are like nothing you have ever seen before.
The hills are alive with vibrant shades of oranges, yellows
and blues for miles. Driving through the Valley gives you
the illusion that you are taking a detour through Land of
Oz. It truly is spectacular. Also keep in mind that it is
illegal to pick the poppies!
To
get there from I-5 South, at Gorman take the CA-138 TOWARD
LANCASTER/PALMDALE and follow signs to the California Poppy
Reserves. It is a detour which will end in Lancaster , exactly
where you are heading… to the I-15 (San Bernadino) to I-10
(Redlands/Indio) taking you directly into Palm Springs CA-111.
