Are
the creators of The L Word selling the
lesbian community out?
First,
I must say, I do love this show. I love the characters, even
confused neurotic Jenny and I love the plot lines. That being
said I am extremely disappointed with the graphic heterosexual
sex scenes in comparison to the much less graphic and yet
just as frequent lesbian sex scenes.
Why
is that the viewers get to experience Eric Mabius’s gyrating
naked ass pounding Mia Kershner, so often and for so long?
In the hetero sex scenes I find myself completely questioning
whether penetration is in fact happening.
It
is that graphic. The hetero sex scenes are much
much more graphic than the lesbian sex scenes. They are not
in any way close in their graphic portrayal,
with
one exception, the scene between Jennifer Beal’s and Laurel
Holloman
in the pilot episode.
I
mean, this is a lesbian show is it not?
It is about lesbians and if seven of the eight main characters
are in fact lesbian
(or
bisexual) characters then would it not make sense that there
be much more frequent lesbian sex scenes rather than hetero?
Also
in comparison, Queer As Folk, the pioneer in gay entertainment
programming does not cater to the
hetero audience. They rarely if at all have any hetero sex
scenes. Isn’t there enough hetero sex on cable?
In
a recent interview with Bill O’Reilly the extremely opinionated
conservative
news program host or bully rather, Aileen Chaiken the series
Producer and outspoken lesbian told O’Reilly that the show
caters to “everyone” and when O’Reilly emphasized straight
men, Chaiken nodded “We welcome them as well”.
I
completely question the “as well” part of that comment.
Could
it be that the actors are just not comfortable doing same
sex sex scenes?
Or is it that Chaiken has committed the ultimate blow to our
community by downplaying lesbian sex scenes and up staging
them with the hetero scenes
to appease hierarchy or even worse for the ratings? These
scenes and the length of them are completely unnecessary to
the story lines. We get it, Tim and Jenny
f@#$k… great! There is really no real or good reason for these
scenes.
They
are just exploitive and not true to the lesbian storyline
the show is
supposed
to be about.
Will
I continue to watch the show? Yes. I am endeared to the characters,
but every time I witness the Tim sex show, I grow more and
more disappointed
in the Producers. Hopefully the creators will get a clue and
be true
to
who they are and who their audience is!
