Charlize Theron takes on a tough role as   Aileen Wournos in
the Monster

What do Charlize Theron and Aileen Wournos have in common?

The movie “ Monster ”, that’s what!

“Monster”, scheduled for release next November, chronicles the infamous female serial killer (and lesbian)’s life and is starring none other than beautiful actress Charlize Theron as Aileen Wournos. Just as wacky, Christina Ricci is playing Wournos’s back stabbing lover. You might ask yourselves, was the casting director out of his mind? I know I did.

I guess we should not be shocked considering that, in the first movie made about Aileen Wournos, “ Overkill”, the leading role was played by another beautiful actress Jean Smart. “Overkill ” was a made for TV b-rated movie and it really was quite sad how Wournos was exploited to get that movie made. But that is another story in itself.

So here we are, with another Alieen Wournos movie starring a beautiful actress, whom does not even remotely resemble or relate to the worn, battered and homeless prostitute. But wait….

In order to be more convincing and effective in the role, Theron has employed a technique used by many Oscar winning actors and has undergone a few changes. In the movie, she wears fake teeth, dark contact lenses and put on 25 pounds, which Theron thanks Krispy Crème donuts for. "She wasn't fat, she was just somebody who had lived on the streets all her life and there was nothing firm on her. She had a baby when she was 13 years old and she hated her body. I had to get to that place where I could feel uncomfortable with my body." While not as unrecognizable as Nicole Kidman in The Hours, she does make drastic changes and is said to have taken the role on, to the darkest level.

Whether Theron will be convincing as Wournos or not, she does deserve kudos for taking on such a mentally challenging role and she very well may pull it off.

I wonder how Aileen Wournos would have appeared had she had a good dentist and lost a few pounds? Do you think that if she had medical insurance (and therefore a dentist and a psychiatrist) her life may have been different? I doubt it, but we will never know.
