BBC
turns Sarah Waters masterpiece
"Tipping
the Velvet", into a wonderful television series!

If you are a fan of Sarah
Waters, it will surely be old news to you that the BBC has made
her infamous lesbian novel "Tipping the Velvet" into a
television series.
Often, movie's made from
novels, lack the steam and excitement as the novels they are created
from, but that is not the case in BBC's version of Tipping
the Velvet. Like the novel itself the movie
was nothing short of delightful. And surprisingly so.
So, here I was... getting
home late in the evening, exhausted from an all day long Pride celebration,
getting ready to go to bed and turned on the television to watch
the news for a quick minute, and the TV was on the BBC channel.
I had heard that the BBC had been airing the series and was
happy to see it on. OK, I thought, I should tape this so that I
can watch it later.... but guess what? I didn't. I
became so enthralled in the three hour long series that I ended
up getting a rush of energy (not to mention anything else) and staying
up hours.
What made the series so
wonderful was that it was funny, sexually risque, endearing and
then of course, the heroine, Nan, played by Rachael
Stirling. The series tells the story of the young woman coming
of age and her adventures as she discovers her sexuality.
She meets a few interesting characters along the way, becomes famous,
experiments with cross dressing, has her heart broken, becomes a
sex slave and discovers love.
If you enjoyed the novel,
you will certainly enjoy the movie. It was truly a treat, sexually
intense, amusing and enthralling... all at the same time.
