You
may know her as the lead singer from the hip Bay Area band,
"Four Non Blondes" or their 1992 runaway hit "What's
going on?" but since the hopla and hype, outspoken lesbian
artist, Linda Perry has found herself a hot commodity in todays
music industry.
Since
splitting with "Non Blondes", Perry spent years
being out of the limelight and was considered to many as a
has been. She had actually been planning a comeback, but thanks
to the infamous artist Pink, Perry has re emerged and re invented
herself as one of the recording industries most sought out
Music Producers and Song Writers known today.
It's no wonder. Pink, grew up being a big fan of Perry's during
the "FNB's" days and when she decided to record
her second album knowing she was taking a big risk by breaking
out of the commercial white R & B artist persona
created for her and be the rocker she felt in her heart she
truly was, who else could she ask to help her but her mentor,
Linda Perry! Perry says that she thought Pink was crazy, "I
asked her if she was sure she's got the right number and whether
she knew I wasn't hip whatsoever". After Pinks insistence,
Perry agreed to work on what is known today as Pinks true
breakthrough album, Missunderstood.
The risk certainly paid off. Missunderstood
went multi platinum and it was Perry who got
"The Party Started" as she authored the song on
Pink's behalf.
Today,
Perry works behind the scenes with some of the greatest female
recording artists known today from Christina Aguilera to Gwen
Steffani to Courtney Love. She authored what many consider
to be Aguilera's most intense personal song "Beautiful"
(which Perry wrote as her own comeback song) and has helped
shape the performer and tap into her own depths. Recently
Perry has been working with No Doubt's Gwen Steffani on her
first solo project as well as Pink's upcoming third album
and in the future will be working on Courtney Love's next
project as well. "There's nothing more surreal than to
have Courtney Love pounding on your door at 2:30 in the morning
when you've never met the woman before,"
Perry
says.
Perry
has certainly come a long way from being written off as a
one hit wonder and while she truly loves what she is doing
now, she
has no plans for recording on her own again and seems to be
completely satisfied in the important role she now plays in
the music industry. In her own words Perry explains,"when
I need to perform, I'll play my piano by myself. I don't need
the same things as I used to. I don't need a bunch of people
clapping for me".
